It is important for the design not only to keep the building’s character visible outside, but also to make it noticeable inside. Thus the wall to the courtyard will be preserved in essential parts inside the new building. The new elements will be connected to the historic building in a regardful way. A glass ceiling acts as a subtle connection between both parts. The interrelation between the existing P & C building and the new part is another important subject of the design. The pillars’ raster, elements of the façade and some materials of the existing store are also used in the new construction. The new building’s ground floor and first floor are on the same level as the ones in the existing P & C store. A hall almost 13 metres high reaches from the second floor to the ceiling. From the higher levels in the historic part and the existing store there are various views down in this light flooded hall.
